Sometimes a Leader ends up as a Beater. 😉
A friend challenged me to chop a picture of a Citroën Visa Leader within an hour. Well, there’s not really much one can do to improve this little car. Lowering, a mild top chop, a set of wheels and voilá, c’est fini. Well, almost. I will eventually finish it properly…

Yes. Another one of those edgy cars from the eighties. The Mitsubishi Sapporo isn’t really a vehicle that gets customized often (or at all, for that matter). I didn’t change a lot, either. Just lowered it, put a nice set of wheels on and added bigger brakes. Done.

I do like edgy cars. And even the rather boring ones can be modified to look (a little) less boring. This Mitsubishi Lancer Mk4 (aka Mitsubishi Mirage) was modified to appear like a car that was build on a shoestring budget. Lowered, larger steel wheels and flared rear fenders. Easy as that.

The Volkswagen Jetta Mk1 was neither a sporty nor a very elegant vehicle – but little modifications sometimes go a long way. I added the taillights from a Scirocco Mk2, extended the fender flares, lowered the ride height and added alloy wheels. Done, simple as that (and it even gives the rear a hint of BMW E21).

Another car from my childhood: the Volkswagen Passat Variant 1B Type 32. I cleaned the body a little, lowered the car and added wheels from a modern day Polo GTI.

A friend of mine wanted to build a scale model of the Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 with some bits and pieces from the more recent GT- R R35 model. He asked me to do a quick chop to see what it could look like. He then built it with the R35 wing and SEIBON Decals.

The 1968 Ford Mustang Shelby EXP500 Black Hornet inspired me to create a classic Mustang Shooting Break.
Apart from the roof, the body was lowered and a front spoiler has been added. The original Shelby wheels have been replaced with period-correct Mag Wheels.

It definitely needs larger wheels!
This is what I thought when the Tata Nano Europa was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 2009. The car not only profits from larger wheels, but also from a wider track and a slightly more aggressive look. The blacked out part stretches the car optically.

In 1972 Opel presented the OSV40 Opel Safety Vehicle Prototype. Based on the 4-door version of the Kadett C, it looked rather bland. The ride height of the OSV40 has been changed. I also made some changes to the body panels and added a front air dam. While working on it I thought I might as well change the body itself. Voilá – the Coupé and Aero versions of the Opel Safety Vehicle.
The Coupé sports a set of white 13″ ATS classic wheels, the Aero a set of 13″ polished Fuchs wheels.

This beauty from the 40’s has been modified extensively – but I tried to maintain a stock look. A top chop along with opened windows, modifications to the front fascia and getting rid of the bumpers was fairly easy. I also found a nice set of chrome steelies.

Even ugly vehicles may be turned into something more desireable. Exceptions: Pontiac Aztek and FIAT Multipla. This Chevrolet SSR has been treated to a NASCAR look. Probably not perfect, but it was just a “what if” kind of idea.

I think the BMW X6 is shockingly ugly. There must be a way to create something nice even from this behemoth. After finding a picture with interesting perspective and lighting, I started to create a virtual model of the BMW X6 – the way they should have designed it.

Another Honda from the 80’s. Only minor modifications to create this virtual model. I retained the stock look of the third generation CIVIC Hatchback and just lowered it over 15″ mesh wheels. The lights have been altered also for a cleaner look.
14
The third generation CIVIC still had the sleek and clean design typical of 80’s Hondas. This one was just lowered and a set of up-to-date larger diameter wheels have been installed.

Even the most mundane cars can be transformed into something fun to drive. Driving a Daihatsu Sirion rental car in South Africa inspired me to virtually modify one. A more aggressive front, a bodykit and a set of larger wheels help this little car to look more grown-up.

In my opinion, Hondas of the 80’s have had a very sleek and clean design – there being no need to change anything on the body or trim. The BA2 Prelude was the first Honda I owned. This one has been lowered over period correct 15 inch mesh wheels and the windows have been tinted.

Even though overlooked by most people, the Renault Fuego is a nicely designed car. It does however lack sportiness when factory stock. I flared the fenders, added larger diameter OZ Futura wheels with low profile tires and removed some of the plastic trim.

Mercedes-Benz SL-Class Shooting Break R129
I really like the Mercedes-Benz SL R129 series. One day I wondered how a shooting break of this particular model would look like. Apart from the roof, nothing has been changed on the body. The car has been lowered and I added wheels from a V12 S-Class.

Being a child of the eighties, I grew up with edgy cars and I still like them. This Alfa Romeo 33 didn’t need a lot of tinkering to become a looker. It has been lowered over BMW 1-Series wheels, the bodykit has been modified slighly and the rear fascia has been changed.
14
A friend of mine built a scale model of a Chrysler 300C Coupé. This inspired me to create this virtual model when the SRT8 version was unveiled. The body has been cleaned, bigger wheels and exhaust tips have been added. Even though it might look like – but the roof is not chopped.

Angle of view and the special light attracted my attention to this Lingenfelter Corvette C5 Z06. I didn’t change a lot, just lowered it, enlarged the wheels and the front spoiler, cleaned the rear valance and blacked out the top.

Even though the Nissan Cedric Y34 is a car from the nineties, I opted to give it that retro look with the hood painted flat black hood instead of carbon fiber. The wheels are pure 80’s design – but with a larger diameter not available back then.
